Physician Associates joined the Orlando Health team at the first annual Orange County Government employee health fair on Friday, March 6, 2015, at the Senior Renaissance Center. The goal of this Mayor’s Event was to engage and educate Orange County employees and their spouses in health care preventive measures and wellness services.

On February 26, Ocoee Internal Medicine's Truc Tran, DO, gave a talk at the Roper YMCA about how to find the right primary are physician.  He encouraged all attendees to take charge of their health, including asking the right questions, keeping track of all medications, communicating honestly and openly with your physicians, and sharing important health information.

Dr. Alix Casler, Medical Director, Pediatrics, Physician Associates, was interviewed by the Orlando Sentinel regarding basic important facts about the measles vaccine, measles itself and the health risks for those who aren’t vaccinated. In the article, Dr. Casler also shares her personal experience treating a patient with measles in Southern California during the outbreak in the 1980’s.

Direct advertising of cigarettes has been replaced by warnings of the dangers of tobacco. Smoking in youths has decreased by 50%. Sadly, the latest smokes, advertised even more glamorously than conventional cigarettes ever were, are electronic cigarettes, also known as “e-cigarettes,” “e-cigs” or “vapes.” These are billed as a “safe” way to smoke. They come in flavors like pina colada and cotton candy. The liquid they vaporize for the user to inhale is called “juice.” They are advertised by sexy media stars.

On November 12, Physician Associates family medicine physician Michael Young, MD, presented “Healthy Living: Understanding Diabetes” at the Dr. P. Phillips YMCA. He provided a comprehensive overview of this disease which affects millions of Americans. He covered:

  • glucose and insulin and how they interact in the body
  • insulin resistance and how lifestyle and nutrition choices can lead to prediabetes and then full diabetes
  • risk factors and symptoms of diabetes
  • steps patients can take to turn their health around, including diet changes, exercise and the importance of healthy weight loss
  • current diabetes medications available.

On October 29, Truc Tran, DO, of Ocoee Internal Medicine spoke at Health Central about “How to Find the Right Primary Care Physician for You and Your Family.”  Choosing a new physician can be challenging whether you are moving to a new community or helping a loved one find a primary care provider (PCP). The presentation covered the current role of the primary care physician in a patient’s care as well as the importance of having a good relationship with your PCP.  Dr. Tran also covered:

Physician Associates pediatrician Alix Casler, MD, appeared LIVE on FOX 35’s Good Day Orlando morning show to discuss the flu vaccine. Some states are now requiring daycares and preschools to have all children receive the flu vaccine. Dr. Casler explained why this is a very smart move and why children especially should be immunized (either with a shot or via nasal mist) for the flu. She also explained that the CDC now is recommending the flu mist vaccine for kids ages 2-8 because its more effective.
