In September of 2013, Physician Associates began a multi-pronged quality improvement project aimed at increasing HPV immunization rates in its pediatric practices. The results were impressive. As of 2015, patients ages 11 to 12 who had at least one dose of the HPV vaccine increased from 20% to more than 50%, with some practices exceeding a 70% immunization rate. Dr. Ricardo Lopez, OB/GYN, OH Physician Associates appeared recently in a LIVE interview on FOX 35 Good Day Orlando discussing a new study that looked at the impact on mothers who have children close together in age. Dr. Lopez explained the new study that examined the health implications that mothers can face depending on how close in age they have their children.

The Lake Nona offices of Orlando Health Physician Associates are now open offering pediatric, family medicine and OB/GYN services. The expansion of OH Physician Associates and the close proximity of the new offices to Medical City is generating media attention. This week Dennis Buhring, President, OH Physician Associates was interviewed by WMFE 90.7FM, Orlando’s NPR radio station about the expansion into Lake Nona, the reasoning for moving closer to the Medical City area and future growth of OH Physician Associates. Dennis’ interview aired multiple times on WMFE’s local news broadcasts throughout Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

Physician Associates joined the Orlando Health team at the first annual Orange County Government employee health fair on Friday, March 6, 2015, at the Senior Renaissance Center. The goal of this Mayor’s Event was to engage and educate Orange County employees and their spouses in health care preventive measures and wellness services.

On February 26, Ocoee Internal Medicine's Truc Tran, DO, gave a talk at the Roper YMCA about how to find the right primary are physician.  He encouraged all attendees to take charge of their health, including asking the right questions, keeping track of all medications, communicating honestly and openly with your physicians, and sharing important health information.

Dr. Alix Casler, Medical Director, Pediatrics, Physician Associates, was interviewed by the Orlando Sentinel regarding basic important facts about the measles vaccine, measles itself and the health risks for those who aren’t vaccinated. In the article, Dr. Casler also shares her personal experience treating a patient with measles in Southern California during the outbreak in the 1980’s.

Direct advertising of cigarettes has been replaced by warnings of the dangers of tobacco. Smoking in youths has decreased by 50%. Sadly, the latest smokes, advertised even more glamorously than conventional cigarettes ever were, are electronic cigarettes, also known as “e-cigarettes,” “e-cigs” or “vapes.” These are billed as a “safe” way to smoke. They come in flavors like pina colada and cotton candy. The liquid they vaporize for the user to inhale is called “juice.” They are advertised by sexy media stars.
